Mayo Clinic Health System Red Wing Reviews
William Braun MBA
Terrible continuity of care; these bozos just wrote us a letter telling us that we've been getting great care?!? Let me tell you what their flimsy definition of great care is... The primary care family physician has been gone the entire four weeks that this sudden onset problem. For the last several days the patient has been at 9 of 10 on the pain scale. Mayo has shuffled the patient between four different physicians none of whom are apparently talking to each other. Mayo advised going into their same day urgent care only while we were already seated and waiting on their waiting room, to be told at Mayo urgent care, because the symptoms have been going on for more than two weeks, it's against Mayo Protocol for the patient to be seen at same day care (Pain still at 9 of 10) so the patient has to go to Mayo's emergency room. The emergency room doctor honestly confesses to us that he is working at the limits of his knowledge on this case, Mayo sends out a letter that we 'missed' our appointment at the urgent care,in spite of the fact that it was the Mayo same day urgent Care people who told us we had to leave and couldn't be seen because of the three weeks the symptoms had persisted (pain by then had reached 9 of 10). The physician who is primary care, supposed to be managing this whole case, got back from vacation a day later, 4 days ago, and we were told he would call us first thing, but it's been 4 days with no word from the Mayo doctor, except the letter telling us we were getting great care. The fact that Mayo clinic general internal medicine has written us a letter telling us that we are getting great care from them is so asinine I can't speak strongly enough at the mere malpractice of that statement. To honestly simply say we're getting crappy care because the primary physician is absent and there's been no coordination of care and Mayo can't reach the primary physician either would be a more accurate synopsis of the quality of care, or lack of quality of care. In summary, 1) the urgent call from the physician supposedly managing this case, who's never seen the patient, that was supposed to happen 4 days ago, still hasn't happened, 2) Mayo clinic is sending out a letter that we missed our appointment, when the woman at the office told us to leave the waiting room, we were not allowed to be seen based on Mayo clinic's same day protocol because the symptoms have been going on for over two weeks, 3) we have a pain of 9 on a 10 scale and we've been shuffled through four different physicians over this three-week Mayo Clinic ordeal Mayo calls 'great' care, never having seen the same doctor twice, 4) Mayo clinic general internal medicine defines this as great quality of care - Bull Pucks!!! I don't believe anyone even looked at the Mayo clinic medical records before they sent this asinine Mayo Clinic form letter out. If I take this for the quality continuity of care represented by Mayo clinic the place has certainly fallen apart.

Really awful. They do not listen to their patients because they have now started to only care about the corporate side. They have done 3 unnecessary tests this far and when they do, it feels the same as calling me a liar. I have been to the clinic THREE times and have waited only to be told the order was not as usual and they needed another, was told one thing when they meant another and today was told to come back Monday. Today I even asked if the order was in place hoping to avoid wasting my time. Still wasted an hour waiting. I sent a message 12/23 via patient portal and still have not heard back. This same clinic was much better as Fairview. The lack of communication causes me to wonder about the quality of care.

When I called in to speak with a nurse, they were very patient and very helpful. When Ive called in to their customer service line with questions about my bill, Ive had nothing but impatient representatives who are annoyed by the questions Im asking and dont seem to have the time of day to understand I dont work in the medical field and may need some help understanding their process. I will absolutely avoid whenever possible.

Needed walk in clinic on a holiday weekend. Staff very nice and was checked in, saw a dr in less than 30 minutes. Even an out of state health care worked with theirs....efficiently and pleasantly resolved my needs.

Time and time again I feel like Im in some bad sales pitch every time I have an appointment. There is a severe lack of communication among the departments. If I were Mayo I would be humiliated by the consistency of lack of service patients are receiving at these satellite clinics. The doctors are more concerned with their paychecks, through meaningless repeat labs and procedures, than they are for the well being of their patients. I will never set foot in the building again. I am disgusted by what Ive been through with this facility. I had Dr. Forberg and have had the worst experience.

Horrible place! don't bother going to 'urgent' care , you'll be waiting 2-3 hours to be seen. Ridiculous and slow! Thinking if making a visit here? Reschedule for anywhere else!

First initial thought about this place was how great they were! Diagnosed a case of Influenza A and issues with stomach ailments that helped me deal with irregularities, however, because I have come in with stomach issues at other times they keep trying to tell me it is now always related to the previous stomach issues, keep in mind this is in the ER but, Healthpartners has diagnosed me with completely different issues and upon both diagnosis have given me appropriate medications and I havent run into the same problem! Just wondering why they keep going back to the previous problems to diagnose whats currently going on????? Just baffled!!!!! For Doctors... are they just that Stupid.Once heard a statement that seems to be the norm here, BOOK SMART, BUT COMPLETELY STREET INCOMPETENT...... duh duh duhhhhhhh!

I would not have given ANY stars if that was an option. The worst clinic I have ever seen. and getting worse as they try to better it. Very obvious it isn't about the patients but how much money they can make. If you are late for an appointment, you get charged. If they are late coming in the room----NO BIG DEAL!!! YOUR TIME IS WORTH NOTHING. More than once I sat in the waiting room well past my appointment time. When I did get in a room, I waited NO LESS THAN 45 MINUTES TO SEE THE DR. I actually went out to see if they forgot me. the gentleman is right about the surgery. They schedule a time for you but no big deal. means nothing, they'll do the surgery when they are good and ready. Oh, then there's the billing dept. My insurance hadn't even had the time to process the bill and send them their payment when they were sending me nasty threatening letters. The very next day I got a letter about some fund raising and would I be willing to donate. ARE YOU CRAZY??? My husband and I are going to switch clinics. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. STAY AWAY. STAY VERY FAR AWAY. You'd be better off going to veterinary clinic, really. My vet is better to my dog than this place is to humans.

I have been a patient here for years, and my primary doctor is excellent and any other doctor that I have seen has been wonderful. I've had several surgeries and all has gone well and the post-ops have gone very well also. I have had physical therapy and have had very pleasant people. I have also been hospitalized and the nurses and staff are all wonderful. All in all I speak very highly of the Mayo Red Wing clinic and Hospital and pharmacy.

Honestly I don't believe I've ever walked away from this hospital feeling satisfied and well-informed... When i ask questions to fill the glaring holes in the discussion, I always feel like I didn't get the answer I needed, nothing ever seems to be well explained, and everyone in here is in such a hurry you'd think they were on their way to the hospital.. Yet the bill is still always there, but the treatment always requires another visit..This hospital is a microcosm of the American Health Care system...

Supposed to have surgery today at 11:00 am, told to be here at 9:30am and I'm still waiting at 1:20 pm. Nurse came in and gave me chamber buck to try and better the situation. Might have a little more understanding if this wasn't the standard procedure at this Hospital and clinic! I guess I will look for a new place in the future!

If I could give this place less than 1 star, I would. The Mayo Clinic and the Mayo Clinic Health System no longer care about the patient. The patient is definitely not first. They think nothing of wasting your time. If they forget a test, they call you and expect you to drop your life (even if you're on vacation) and twist yourself in knots to accommodate them. If you say no to a procedure, they do not respect the patient's right of refusal. They will tag team you and intimidate you and coerce you in order to get their way. If I could go to the U of MN, I would, but I just can't handle the driving, so I am captive to this horrible, horrible clinic and nasty personnel.

This is the absolute worst hospital I've ever been to. The staff don't know what they're doing! The only Dr in this place worth 2 cents is Eric Wirta he himself deserves an A but the other staff get a C or lower! Some are just plain incompetent!

Reading other reviews confuses me. Ive had nothing but a good experience as a patient at the mayo in red wing. They are caring, easy to work with, responsive, and the billing is seamless. Overall, I love the mayo!

I just don't like Mayo. They believe they ARE the only doctors worthy. This is how they act. I believe they just want more money from patients. I was treated by three different doctors in two weeks and not one coincided with the other.

Very slow, very unorganized, and little communication between staff. Was told to make an appointment for surgery, called as soon as they opened since I went in to ER on a Sunday an tried getting this going for first thing Monday morning. After being told I would get a call back, surprise no call back. I dialed surgery again just to find out the doctor I was supposed to be meeting with took the day off. This place needs to get it together. Doctors are great, but to the front desk staff it seems to be just a job.

Terrible clinic. Most of the workers are rude and the wait time is unbearable. I have only had to come to this clinic a few times for minor issues (thankfully) and I will never return. If you're trying to get in to the same day clinic, good luck. Either the wait is 2 hours or they won't accept you because they're too short on providers. I understand that things happen but c'mon...get it together.

If i could give negative stars I would. I have always heard bad things about this place from friends but i never thought it was that bad. When i was a patient I was treated like a cow going through a gate waiting for the next one to come through. I felt like i was telling the doctors more about what was wrong. I will not go into detail on what i was there for but I spent most of my time online trying to find out what was wrong with me since the doctors there were useless. I would not such a bad review if it was just me that they mistreated but i was not the only one. My dad had gotten his hip replaced here about 4 years ago. Everything seemed to be going good with healing afterwards. About 2 years ago he went back in and said that he had been getting pain in his hip, his leg and his back. It was just uncomfortable to begin with. They did some xrays to see if the hip was doing what it was supposed to do. It was not misplaced or moved. They refused to run any blood tests. One of the doctors even told my dad that the pain was not that bad and it was all in his head. He was furious but kept going in because he wanted to fix the pain. It progressively got worse over a year. It was almost to the point where he could not walk. His doctor finally told him all they could do for him was give him cortisone shots. He stopped going to the red wing location and made an appointment for the University of minnesota. When he arrived they took blood samples and tissue and fluid test of his hip. It turned out that he had a terrible infection in his hip caused by some arthritis medication that red wing had prescribed him. The medication made his immune system weak and caused an infection in his artificial hip. The doctor at the u of m informed him that if not treated that the infection could have killed him. He had to his hip taken out and a temporary one in to get rid of the infection and than another permanent hip. He is doing very well now no thanks to mayo in red wing. I have never seen a hospital so poorly organized, unhelpful, rude and just not there for their patients. I would not recommend going here unless its an absolute emergency.

My one year old son obtained a leg injury the 4th of July from a fall. His dad took him to the ER in Red Wing. They sent him to Radiology for an x-ray. First of all, the radiologist began to take an x-ray of the wrong leg. Second of all, when they did complete the x-ray and read the results, they said his leg was fine. That it was only badly bruised. He was to take our baby home and give him Tylenol and wait for it to heal. After making it through the weekend, I knew there was something still incredibly wrong with his leg. I thought maybe they missed a hairline fracture? I took him into Orthopedics, which is an excellent Department and the only one I trust at this point. Ortho had his leg re x-rayed and found out that his tibia was broken and it was clearly broken! The doctor was rubbing my shoulder and saying, 'I'm sorry that this happened.' My thought was how did they miss that big of a break on a one year old child? His small leg is not that hard to x-ray! I'm incredibly disappointed and frustrated. This is complete incompetency from Mayo Red Wing and their Emergency Room Department. Luckily my son's leg has now healed and there was no more damage done. I'm glad I went with my instincts and had him rechecked.

They have the best knee surgeon there on earth. I have a rare genetic disorder and it didn't even phase this doctor. He'd done many knees on people with the same condition. I was in the hospital for three days the nurses and CNAs were right there when I needed them. They were the most concerned about pain control as I have seen any doctor and I am an RN. Best Pain control program around. I am having my second knee done there next Monday. Only 6 weeks after my first. And I trust these professionals like they were my family. Thank you for the great service.

Horrible service, unprofessional, unethical, unorganized and the worst hospital ever! My father had serious medical testing, needed to be hospitalized, completed in the morning and no doctor to report the test results all day. They kept pushing off the consultation to report the results, he didn't see 1 doctor all day when he was admitted?. These were serious tests - life changing regarding the heart and lungs not working appropriately. HUGE concerns - will be reporting to the state department and medical board. I wouldn't bring my dog to this clinic or hospital as they would most likely screw that up. Save yourself the headache and go to a different provider?!It should be noted that the hospital is not 'busy or even close to being filled?

Told me I'd wait for less than an hour. Ended up waiting an hour an half while my throat is swollen up, so I ask the nurse how long the wait times are she tells me another hour. I'd rather stay at home next time and suffer then come back here

Was lucky to get a same day appt to get antibiotics for a sinus infection. I'm medically competant and very familiar with the symptoms, wanted to head it off early. There was a wait, but as I was in so much face pain is missed work anyway. Got called in, the nurse and front desk people were fantastic, the doctor was an arrogant ass who seemed to think I was a hypochondriac, offered no medical alternatives to my explainatii, described the common cold to me, and generally looked down on me like a silly little woman.I get that I don't look like I'm beating rickets stage, but I'm a super easy patient, if this guy hadn't acted one second from asking if I was on my period we may not have triggered my need for someone competant and active dislike of condescension.I got my meds, and the pharmacist at Wal-Mart took one look at me and knew it wasn't a cold.I'll drive back to Wisconsin next time.

I have great service with the DR but poor experience with scheduling. I was referred out to specialty and I was not allowed to schedule until my insurance approved. I have very limited availability with my work schedule and only 1 appt left for when I could be seen in the following week and I was not allowed to schedule.

This clinic is impossible to get an appointment. They make you wait months to get into for conditions where you are very ill. They do not allow to make appointments with other doctors either to speed up the appointments. I am looking else where to find better service.

This is the worst hospital I have ever been to... They believe everybody is drug seeking...I have several severe chronic conditions and went in with horrible stomach pain and all over pain, the first thing they did was take urine and tested me for drugs without my permission.....I was there too find out what was wrong with me not for drugs, I have plenty pain meds at home. Then they have me a diagnosis that had nothing to do with my symptoms.... My blood tests showed abnormal results and they did nada about that either.... Too top it off the nurse went in my phone without asking in front of my face and made in inappropriate comment about my screensaver of my boyfriend.... Never again... Front desk people are very rude as well.....I would much rather make the hour trip to the city and suffer.... BEWARE!!!!

I visited a dermotolgist last year. I waited 45 min for a 4 min visit. She froze 3 spots on my face. It cost me over 400 bucks. Best to call for prices tho Mayo has never given me any prices over the phone. Someone needs to call a halt to overcharging.

I think reading a person's chart to see if they are allergic to opiods would help. After they gave me a cast for a sprain I was pumped up with meds I was allergic to. Returning to have it removed I went back to ER in excruciating pain only to have a severe reaction and Jaundice. Nurses are great doctors are poor. Do not plan to return ever again. This is one of many issues I have with Mayo RW.

I will never return to this hospital. Even after voicing concerns multiple times about preeclampsia, neither doctor I was seeing tested me for it. Simply told me the severe symptoms to watch for. Got taken to Methodist Hospital in Rochester by ambulance after having extremely high blood pressure and discovering the blood in the umbilical cord wasn't flowing properly. There I was immediately tested for and diagnosed with preeclampsia. Ended up giving birth to my daughter at 30 weeks 4 days later because my liver wasn't functioning properly. I would never recommend this hospital to anyone; especially pregnant women.
