I'm a local primary care doc and I send the majority of my patients in need of surgical services to Iowa Specialty Surgeons, and for good reason. They are more dedicated to their patients than any surgeons I've met or worked with; they communicate clearly and promptly not only with their patients but also with me as their primary care doctor, letting me know what they think about a case beforehand and how things are going afterwards; and they do a fantastic job. Once, Dr. Mayfield returned from Newton to West Des Moines after 5pm to meet with a patient of mine who was suffering and needed surgical help as soon as possible. I could never have imagined a surgeon doing that. Most would say 'make an appointment' or 'send him to the ER if he's in that much pain' (which would burden the patient with excessive and unnecessary medical bills, without expediting his treatment) but instead Dr. Mayfield came in and opened the office after hours by himself to see this patient and got him to the OR the next day.

The office was inviting, the waiting room isn't your standard uncomfortable dreary depressing environment, and the staff is friendly and compassionate. The surgeon was straight forward with what's going on, which I like, and told me what I needed to do and what will be done with no BS. I like no BS. Well Done.

Exceptional experience! Dr. Mayfield and Deb were more than welcoming, as well as extremely informative. This was my second surgery in my life, 10 years apart, and I'm not a huge fan of hospitals in general. After the first consult with Dr. Mayfied, I was completely confident in his professionalism, knowledge and skill set. Everything went great! And while I am still on the mend, Iowa Specialty Surgeons has ensured me that professionals who care, are waiting to help. Definitely recommend!
