On September 23, 2019 I saw a Dermatologist for the 1st time in more than 40 years. The Dermatologist biopsied several spots on my head and back and sent the biopsies off to Pathology for testing. I went on vacation to the Pacific Northwest the next day. I got a phone call from my Dermatologist on Monday, September 30, 2019, and she had to inform me that I had cancer in the form of a large Melanoma on my scalp. She said she would refer me to one of the best surgeons she knew, Dr. Scott Shadfar for removal of the melanoma with margins and a sentinel node biopsy. I hung up the phone and was very scared since I wasn't familiar with any of this and had never dealt with cancer! Just the word 'cancer' scared me! I got a phone call a few days later from Dr. Shadfar's office and my 1st appointment was scheduled for Monday, October 13, 2019. My wife accompanied me to each appointment and we both hit it off with Dr. Shadfar and his entire staff! All very nice, comforting, but professional people!Dr. Shadfar was very honest with letting me know all my options and what I would need to do! Scary, but not a lot of choices when you have cancer on your head. I was at the point now of being past scared and wanted the cancer off my head! Dr. Shadfar was able to get me scheduled for surgery on Thursday, October 17, 2019, just 3-days after my 1st appointment! This was good because there were a lot of appointments and tests to be done in a couple days and it kept me very busy, which I needed! Everywhere my wife and I went the nurses and staff would see or ask who was doing my surgery and they would tell us Dr. Shadfar is the best! This can really put you at ease when you are going into a surgery with someone you just met! The 1st surgery was performed at Integris Hospital in Edmond, OK and went off without a hitch. The wound on the top left of my scalp was approximately 2'' in diameter. I had to make appointments and wait for a week until pathology came back with clean edges on the melanoma that was removed from my scalp. The 2nd surgery was performed at Integris Hospital in Edmond, OK on Thursday, October 24, 2019, to allow Dr. Shadfar to shape the wound and close it up so that it would heal properly. Another very successful surgery.I have had several follow-up appointments as the wound has healed with Dr. Shadfar and his staff and this may sound funny, but my wife and I actually looked forward to our visits! It's nice to visit with people who show genuine concern for you and make you feel comfortable with your situation.My last appointment with Dr. Shadfar was on Monday, January 20, 2020. He has turned me back over to the confident care of my Oncologist and my Dermatologist!

After having a lesion and Basil Cell Carcinoma removed, I was immediately sent to Dr. Shadfar. I was in shock when I saw how much of my lip was gone. But Dr. Shadfar sat down and explainhow he intended to put my lip back together again. He told me to look at some previous surgeries hehad done and they all looked amazing in the 'after' photos. Most of the photos were different parts of the face but I could see what a great surgeon and how dedicated he was. I was referred to Dr Shadfars office after a Mohs procedure that removed a basal cell carcinoma from my nose. Initially, I was traumatized by the extent of the damage. Nurse Brenda was very supportive and showed true kindness and empathy towards my condition. She assured me that I was in the right place. After meeting Dr Shadfar, I knew she was right. The procedure to reconstruct the damage was not an easy one, but the results were truly remarkable. It was amazing how quickly and how well I healed. After my surgery, Dr Shadfar personally checked in with me and made himself available by text and phone thru my recovery. The personal attention I received from him and all his staff was exemplary. This man is truly gifted. I am grateful for having been referred to his care.

Dr Shadfar is the best doctor we have seen in a long time. I am an RN so I have high expectations. He was amazing. He called personally to check on my son after surgery. We had to stay in a hotel close to his office because we live more than an hour away. He gave me his cell phone number just in case we needed something. Had basal cell carcinoma on my nose and a huge chunk of my nose had to be removed to get it all. So here I am three months post surgery and people at work kid me that I never had the basal cell surgery that I had photoshopped a large hole on a picture of my nose. An unexpected benefit of Dr. Shadfars surgery was that he also reconstructed the inside of my nose and I can breathe better through my nose than I ever had before. Ive been a registered nurse for over 25 years and I can sometimes be a tough patient. I highly, highly recommend Dr. Shadfar!
